Historic Pictures of St. Andrew Church and Parish

Father Zephyrin Druon, Vicar General of the Diocese of Burlington, oversaw the construction of the first Catholic churches in Waterbury, Moretown and Northfield, frequently celebrating Mass in those churches.

Before coming to central Vermont, Father Droun served as the first resident pastor of St. Francis de Sales in Bennington, building the church in 1854. He also founded St. Peter parish in Rutland in 1853 and St. Bridget parish in West Rutland in 1855.

Appointed pastor of Saint Augustine Church in Montpelier in 1856, he also attended to the needs of Catholics in Northfield, saying mass there every other week. He was appointed Vicar General in 1863.

He also said the first Mass in Randolph. He died in 1891.

Father Dwyer with an visiting priest. The crucifix in his cincture suggests that he is a member of a religious order -- perhaps from St. Michael's College. Fr. Dwyer served as pastor between 1942 and 1970.
